5 Simple Ways to Discourage Break-ins

    DevidBy DevidNovember 9, 2022No Comments3 Mins Read

The number of burglaries across the world has risen over the past decade. If you live in a neighborhood that’s been hit by burglars, there are things you can do to discourage break-ins. The guide provides you with information on how to discourage break-ins.

    Put up a Fence

A fence is a great way to keep out unwanted visitors. If you have a large yard, it may be well worth investing in a fence. You can install it so that it’s low enough for your dog to jump over but high enough that intruders can’t get through.

Or you can make your fence with chicken wire or chain link fencing. If you’re feeling crafty, you can make your picket fence.

Install Surveillance Equipment and an Alarm

A good surveillance system will deter people from breaking into your house and stealing anything they see as valuable.

The best type of camera is one that captures images during the day and at night. So, if someone breaks into your house when it’s dark outside, they’ll still be caught on film. You won’t need to worry about the darkness because most cameras today use infrared technology.

If you don’t already have an alarm system, it’s time to get an alarm system. Alarms are an excellent deterrent for burglars because they require more time to disable them. If you already have an alarm, set it every time you leave the house.

Put Valuables in a Safe Place and Lock Up Your Windows and Doors

Burglars often target high-end homes because they think homeowners have expensive items inside their homes. Consider putting valuables in a safe deposit box at a bank or other secure location offsite from your home—but still within reach.

In addition, ensure you’ve locked all doors and windows before leaving the house or apartment. Put bars inside the sliding glass doors depending on where you live and who lives nearby. Or you could install deadbolts on all exterior doors.

    Install Motion-Sensor Lighting

Installing motion-sensor lighting around your house is a great way to discourage break-ins. It lights up when motion is detected. Also, if someone is creeping outside your home at night, the bright light above their head will easily spot them.

Motion-sensor lights aren’t just for outdoor use; We can also use them inside. If you have a staircase or hallway that’s tricky to navigate in the dark, these lights can help guide you safely.

Install Deadbolts on All Exterior Doors

Deadbolts should be installed on all exterior doors, including those that open onto patios or backyards. Make sure the deadbolt is sturdy and has a large enough key cylinder so that it cannot easily be removed or broken off. If you have an older home with glass panes in doorways, replace them with solid wood panels or steel plates.

    Bottom Line!

A home is a place where residents feel safe. Therefore, it is essential to ensure your home is always protected. You should use the methods mentioned in this article to discourage break-ins.
