5 Hacks To Brighten Your Home

Many of us want our home to look as bright and open as possible, but this is sometimes a lot easier said than done. If you are struggling to brighten your home, then this article is for you, with 5 hacks to brighten your home.

From simply re-painting the walls to adding small yet effective decor features, this article has everything you need to brighten your home. No matter the size of your home, I guarantee you will find something in this blog to help you brighten your home.

Update the flooring

Although it may not be the first thing we think of, the colour of the floor can have a big impact on the rest of the room and the way it looks. Having a dark-coloured floor can make the room feel darker and smaller, even if the walls are brightly coloured.

In order to make a room feel as bright as possible, try swapping your flooring for something lighter that aligns better with bright walls. If you are on a budget, then you can invest in a bright coloured rug to help brighten the room rather than re-doing the flooring.

Change the windows

If your windows have a lot of sash bars then this could block out a lot of the light, meaning an uneven amount of light is coming through the windows. This will make your home appear darker as you aren’t getting the optimum amount of sunlight into your home.

If this is the case, you should opt for casement windows as they don’t have sash bars which will allow you to get the optimum amount of light into your home. Essex Trade Windows supply various window styles so you can choose the right one for you.

Repaint the walls

Painting your walls a light colour can instantly make the room appear and feel brighter. It also makes the room feel more open due to the bright colours. If you like to incorporate colour into your decorating, then opt for pastel colours.

You could also incorporate a feature wall if you wanted to add some colour to the room. This will allow you to keep the room looking bright whilst utilising a splash of colour. If you are going to create a feature wall, make sure you choose a bright colour as a dark colour will have the opposite effect to what you want.

Spread your lighting evenly

In order to keep your home looking bright, make sure you spread your lighting evenly. If you have one focus light in the middle of the room, then this can make the edges of the room appear darker which you want to avoid.

Instead, install lighting in the areas of the room that are naturally darker to help brighten it up. You can also utilise floor lighting to help brighten the room, although these are best to brighten up a dark kitchen

Decorate your home with light reflecting objects

In order to make your home as bright as possible, make sure you incorporate light reflecting objects into your decor. Mirrors are a great way to do this and they look great in virtually any room. You can also use metal decor items such as diffusers or candles to help reflect the light.

These types of decor items will reflect the light into different places of the room to help brighten it. It’s best to practise to place the decor items where you want the light to reflect to in order to get as much use out of them as possible.

Time for you to brighten your home

Now that I have shared 5 hacks to brighten your home, it’s time for you to put them to good use by applying them to your home. No matter how big or small your home is or the amount of light it gets during the day, I guarantee you will be able to find something in this blog for you.

My biggest tip would be to stick with bright, neutral colours as the base for your walls and flooring as this will help to brighten up your space. You can then use decor items to brighten your home even more.
